troy..appearances are deceptive!

troy...the first thing most people say is 'helen of troy'...
then they need to be corrected..that was the one in greece...this is in NY.
well before coming here i was told its a real small place..parag(madhuras bro) also called it 'wadgaon budruk'!!...and it is..absolutely quiet and tiny...but yesterday i came to know of some really interesting details of it!..

firstly,it was shock to me that 'uncle sam' really existed! and he lived in troy,he was the one who triggered the american independance movement.
the british put restrictions and thier norms on what sort of stuff would be manufactured by the americans here and uncle sam revolted saying he would produce only the wine he wanted and nothing else.....thats how the movement was started..

troy came to be known as the artillery base camp of US..their is a armory builing in the campus..now i get its significance.....troy was the war headquarters!...
but then a huge fire occured which destroyed all the amunition and industries in troy..and it could really not come up again..
now i guess the only people living in troy are the 'students and the retired people'...

also RPI is the oldest 'engineering' school in the US ,founded by samuel rensselaer...i did not know that as well....yesterday i had a guided tour of the town by one of my roomates...
so the sudden update.
and so after pune i land up in a place quite as much historically important!...does not beat pune's exciting history though!!!!!!!
