Open ended Questions?
Learning here, going back in two years, and taking up a job position there that could be handled by someone aready there, and may i dare say more probabilitiy of him being less capable, is that really better than working here?
But is this stream of thought leading to the a magnified version of the "Engineering Vs Pure Sciences" question that we are currently facing?
Should going back remain the only objective even if you are not being able to make any difference to the scenario?
Are people, who think that they could make a larger contribution staying here ,probably adding to the family residing her and getting a say in the American Policies by enlagring the community here, to be blamed?
An extreme and opposite end stream.....
education, research, or enterprenuership...are these the only choices for an engineer to actually be useful after returning...and not "JOB"..? if you plan to anyway join cognizant after coming back and do a coding job...should you better stay put here...would that be "help"? and if you plan to enter any of the other three fields ,staying here for a while and gathering funds to support your undertakings on returning back ,should you find yourself guilty while you work here?
and if after all this you are not able to make any difference at the grass root level...have you succeeded?
I want to find the answers for myself even if it takes long..

hi grl,
dunno if i am the right person to comment on this particular piece... but i know its a difficult one..
anyways... give it a break n enjoy ur holidays...
n HAPPY NEW YEAR...
Ru,
You will really have to guess who this is.You have said that you will like to find answers by yourselve but having crossed this path I am tempted to add a few thoughts to give clarity or add to confusion.
1)You donot take up a job which can be handled by some one of lower capability . You add status to a job by your capability. Organisation either upgrades you or you shift to other places. iF YOU BRING MORE VALUE THAN IT COSTS TO HIRE YOU, you will get promoted or pushed upwords till you reach a level of incompitence.
2)Eng Vs Pure science is a fundamental dilemma which some people (like the author )can answer very early. They choose to swim against the tide. But in the end it does not make difference provided you keep your spirit of enquiry, joy of discovery,of finding things out,of solving problems and an open mind to correct once views so as to absorb new ideas. At this level whether you are an eng. or a scientist, it does not matter. Infact this approach or scientific method will help you in any job for that matter.
3)Who says you can't make a difference back home? Infact if you take on a job which can be hadled by less capable people then it is far easier to start making diff. Be it job, family ,society ...
4)Those people who think they can't make difference back home are deceiving them selves by thinking that they can make difference in American policies by staying there. This appears to be excuse of coward.
5)There are many more opportunities than cognizant and coding. Decode your thoughts and you will discover. Remember someone expressed these and similar thoughts after your campus interview ! Do stay back to learn more and if you enjoy doing so, but not for funds. There are enough venture capitalists back home to provide funds for all bright ideas.
Forget what is written above and enjoy the journey of finding your own answers.
You can claim your surprise gift if you guess right,
That's Neeti's baba methinks! Do I get a surprise gift!!! :-)

I think this Blog and the comment by "Anonymous" should be circulated in all your friend circle..the ones who are also confused abt .. But it is good that Swadesh made u think abt this..
i had told you i wont be commenting on your bloggs here but this one has hit a nerve in me which made me do this.
the person whoever he is,who has commented as anonymous has said all i would have liked to say to you on this blog.i just want to add one more thing.and the most important one i think----have you herd the song "yeh jo desh hai tera...swades hai tera?"what do you think is the most important word in the song????
yeh jo des hai TERA,swades hai TERA,tuze hai pukara, yeh vo bandhan hai jo kabhi tut nahi sakta.
you being a ayn rand fan,i dont need to tell you what the word MINE meens.you may take all the time you want to figure this out.its yours.but remember that word"because its mine".
do i need to give my name?i think you know who i am.and no gifts for guessing it right

hi Rujuta,
Opening up a long dead topic probably, but what the heck.
Well it's a really interesting question and something that's been plaguing me since I've come back from my vacation.
Having seen one company (u know the name, I won't name it) and thereby hundereds more, I can say with reasonable confidence that you are right. Education, Research and Entrepreneurship are the only avenues.
Probably the question to be first answered is: Why do you want to work in any given place (india or any other place in the world)?
Most ppl I know would tell me that ppl going abroad should come back, and work for the country.
I do not agree. I mean I don't agree with asking ppl to come back. To be fair to them, there is no reason, other than absolutely personal and family reasons for a person to come back. I also don't agree that a person can make a difference to his country if he works in that country itself. The question in this case would be: what kind of a difference would you make?
Anyways, me getting late. And this comment is getting really long. So I'll complete it some other day.
