Flight scare
I admire airplanes......a LOT!!!!!!! Inspite of knowing the flying fundas, bernouille's principle and everything, the mere concept of a tube flying in the sky for hours and covering even half the globe at times is just unbelievable.
But with every flight I have been scared. I am scared of flying accidents. Now statistics say that there are more road accidents and flights are much safer and everything. But I cannot still lookover the fact that almost all air accidents are fatal!! Well this has been on my mind for almost two years now, ever since I started flying a lot, and its been there with every flight I took.
The reason the whole flight scare thing suddenly got fresh is the rapid succession of flight accidents that have happened in the last few months....
First the Turkish airline crashing in Amsterdam (I was at the Schipol airport on a parellel runway when that happened btw), then the Airbus disappearing in the atlantic, then the Yemini airplane crashing and then today a Southwest plane getting a hole in the passenger cabin and making an emergency landing!!! Isnt that a bit too quick in a span of 4 months ....oh and I forgot the US plane that landed in the Hudson after the birds went in the engine.
I cant convince myself that its just co-incidence. I feel the air-traffic has started becoming a bit too much to handle for all the different sectors that make air travel safe. Its not enough that the ATC is doing a juggling job, but even the air plane maintanance, flying hours for the air crew, flying hours the plane itself puts in, all make me feel that this certainly accounts for the increased probability of air accidents that we are witnessing.
anyway I am glad I am not having to fly too much right now, but that might not stay so always.
And thats going to be just one other reason for me to hate long-distance apart from the many others....
Rujuta.
p.s I wrote the post yesterday and today there has been an Iranian airplane crash, the cause of which is again unknown!!! How creepy is that!

oh I didn't know this. I have this innate confidence about flights. I genuinely feel *nothing* can go wrong eventually. Though I have airport disasters every single time I fly, and if nothing goes wrong, I start feeling bad about the journey itself...
Yes there indeed are a lot of accidents these days... too many for the rationale of coincidence to fit... but then again the reason it still works is there is no other option with the lobby having successfully gotten almost rid of the trains...
Digressing, its good to see you back in the blogging world :)
you surprise me RUJ!!! didn't know you had written this post until today when I randomly chanced upon it! :P

Great to see a blog post from you :)
Keep Going !!
I'm really glad that you won't be travelling as much!
mavals
a lot more can go wrong..
but systems and procedures are in place to prevent 99.9% of errors..
and aviation being what it is..the slightest of errors =huge implications..
but yes.. the past year had an unusually high number of air accidents...hopefully the year ahead will be better!
touch wood.
